THE MOTORCYCLE COMPANY (For addresses see the end of this Newsletter)
Dear friends,
As you may have read in the previous Newsletter, our Company will organise a number of activities in the coming months. Why all these activities? Now that’s quite simple, for riding a classic bike is action and our Company is aiming for continuos action. We don’t avoid the element of surprise and that’s of course a pleasant thing for our customers.
One of those activities is our Great Lottery. A unique happening in the motorcycle world. You can win a real NORTON COMMANDO and wherever can you do this? Furthermore the month of December will be a campaign month with a lot of interesting bargains in our shop.
There are whispers that Santa Claus (and Black Peter) do have motorcycle blood in their veins and will visit our company on Saturday December 2nd. That means that he will pay his respects to our Company in an appropriate manner. We are curious to know in what way he will come and we think you, and of course especially your children, are also curious.
Gradually it becomes colder and colder, but is does not mean that we have to store our classic bikes at once. There are often still, although maybe a little bit cold but beautiful, days to enjoy motorcycling with our classic bikes. In our shop we have all the facilities for motorcycling in a comfortable, warm and dry way.
Maybe not so interesting for those motorcycle friends who are living far away, but when you are in the neighbourhood and especially on a Saturday come and visit us. For especially those Saturdays are social gatherings in our shop.
On behalf of THE MOTORCYCLE TEAM,
Harm Heuvelman

ABSAF/BSA We are proud to announce you that we, as the representatives of the Dutch Engineering Company ABSAF for Holland and Belgium, now can show you, in our shop, two completely and newly built ABSAF/BSA Gold Star DBD 34 engines. One engine in standard form, for use in a road bike, a motor-cross bike or enduro/trails bike. The other exposed engine is a tuned one and can be used for a sports or racing bike. We can deliver all the engine parts you need. Do you have worn out parts in your engine, wintertime is pre-eminently the time to overhaul it so you can use your bike the coming springtime in a reliable way. And believe us, before you realise it, springtime is there. So order the parts you need in time. So… don’t bother any longer with an unreliable bike. We guarantee that all the ABSAF/BSA GOLD STAR parts are of a superior quality and even better than the original ones. Cylinders, cylinder heads, crankcases, crankshafts, connecting rods, big ends and all the small parts you need, name it and we can help you out. So if you have planned to build a new engine in your bike the coming winter or build a “special”, we can help you out with the source of power for your motorcycle: the engine. Of course we can also help you out with all the other parts you maybe need to build the bike of your dreams, such as magneto’s, magdyno’s, carburettors, frame-parts, tyres and so on. We can also give you all the expert advice in building your “special” bike.
2. Bikes on consignment Not long ago a customer visited our shop. We drank a cup of coffee and we talked about motorcycles. He told us that he had to stop motorcycling for several reasons. He had offered his bike for sale but was disappointed for he had not sold his bike. He got plenty of reactions, but mainly time-wasters and people who wanted to know the selling price of his bike. Also people with whom he made an arrangement to meet and to see the bike who then never showed up. We told him that we could sell his bike on consignment and he agreed. It was not a surprise for us that we sold his bike within two weeks. In our Company we have the facilities to show any bike in the best way there is in our showroom. When the bike is not in a “good quality” condition we can agree to bring it in to that condition. It is for instance, sometimes, advisable to spend some money to earn back double of what you have invested. And… our conditions for selling your bike(s) are very reasonable.
3. Searching for bikes We don’t know if you have visited the so-called “Mini-Centennial” or “TT Classic Parade” on the famous TT-Circuit of Assen on September 24th, in which 3 of our co-workers were competing. If so we don’t have to tell you about the splendid gallery of classic racing bikes you have seen in action. If not you have missed a lot. These are the opportunities to see famous makes of motorcycles on the track and also on the parking grounds and also makes and models you would like to own. But how to realise your dream to own, for instance, a BSA Gold Star, a Norton International or Manx etc. etc? To ask the owner, of just that bike you would like to own is, often quite difficult. Don’t bother for we have the possibilities via our many contacts all over Europe to search just that bike you would like to own. Contact us and we can and will help to arrange for your dream bike.
4. Meeting in our shop of enthusiasts of classic enduro bikes on November 5th If you own a classic racing, cross or trail bike you are able year in year out, in Holland, to start in demo-races, veteran crosses and trails. But competing with your classic enduro on a regular base was not possible. One of our co-workers, Wim Marijnis, who owns a number of those classic enduro bikes such as BSA Gold Star, Moto Morini, Monark, Puch and Eysink, organised a meeting at the beginning of this year trying to find out if there were enough enthusiasts for and owners of old enduro-bikes (built until about 1978). This first meeting attracted about 60 enthusiasts from Holland, Belgium and Germany with 20 old enduro-bikes such as Maicio, Greeves, Puch, Hercules, Jawa etc. This meeting was followed by an entry in an off-road competition with a special class for our old enduro bikes in Ruinen (Drente). Twenty competitors from Holland, Belgium and Germany enjoyed themselves and all of them finished without troubles! This initiative will get a continuation by organising:
A SECOND MEETING OF ENTHOUSIASTS FOR CLASSIC ENDURO MOTORCYCLES ON SUNDAY NOVEMBER 5th AT OUR COMPANY, AMBACHTSTRAAT 3, BERGAMBACHT (6 KM WEST OF Schoonhoven). BEGINNING AT 13.30 HOURS.
While enjoying a bite and a drink we can show you an interesting range of classic road-, sports- and racing bikes, among which an interesting and rare 250cc Six Days model Puch. To talk about our old enduro bikes and days gone by.
How do you get to Bergambacht? Coming from the town of Gouda you take the N207 to Bergambacht. Coming from the south, you take, after the Brienenoordbrug at Rotterdam, the first exit to the right and follow the N210 to Bergambacht. Coming from the North and the East you are driving via the junction Oudenrijn at Utrecht via the A2/E25 direction Vianen, take the exit to IJsselstein/Schoonhoven and go via the N210 to Bergambacht. Mr. John Edelhausen from Maastricht will show some videos of old enduro competitions from the fifties, sixties and seventies. These old video’s are also for sale from him! A unique opportunity to acquire a rare time-document of enduro’s from the past. Enthusiasts/owners of old enduro-bikes are invited to bring their bikes with them to show them to their fellow enthusiasts. Talking about those bikes gives pleasure, but riding those old bikes gives even more pleasure and THAT IS POSSIBLE AGAIN, for owners of classic enduro bikes (built till about 1978) can compete in a specially for them arranged class during the:
OFF-ROAD RUN IN HENGELO (in the province of Gelderland) ON SUNDAY NOVEMBER 19th, START AT 10 O’CLOCK IN THE MORNING AND ORGANISED BY THE ”HENGELOSE AUTO- EN MOTORVERENIGING”.
More information about this run during the meeting on Sunday November 5th at our Company in Bergambacht.
5. What bikes do we offer on the moment? At the moment, we have several interesting offers. Attractive offers on motorcycles, to make room in our showroom, which we are selling with high discounts. These offers are, a red DUCATI SS900 in NCR trim, a 500cc BMW R50 in gentleman’s black, a BSA A10 500cc twin and a MATCHLESS G12 650cc twin. Besides these “bargains” we can offer several beautiful MOTO GUZZI models of the types GT and V7 Special. A VELOCETTE VIPER 350cc is also a model that you do not often see on the road nowadays, but we have a nice example for sale. What do you think of a 350cc V-twin MOTO MORINI, an attractive bike to discover the small country roads? These motorcycles have been serviced and will be sold with the well-known TMC 3 months guarantee. But…. To visit our Company is the best way to know more about the many motorcycles we have for sale and on consignment. And a fresh cup of coffee is always waiting for you.
6. The unique great THE MOTORCYCLE COMPANY LOTTERY. We dare to say that we are unique with our great THE MOTORCYCLE COMPANY LOTTERY to give away to one of our customers in April 2001 a classic motorcycle: a fantastic NORTON COMMANDO MK 111 OF 1975. We also offer a second and a third prize. The winner of the second prize will be able to shop for Hfl. 1.000,-- worth of merchandise in our shop, for free and the winner of the third prize can go shopping for Hfl. 500,-- worth of merchandise in our shop.
Something more about the history of our First Prize, the NORTON COMMANDO MK 111 from 1975. The basis of this project, was the Norton 500cc twin of the type Model 7 from 1947, developed by Bert Hopwood. This model was followed up by the Norton Dominator the Luxe with the famous featherbed frame, developed by Irishman Mc. Candless. The American market wanted bigger machines and so the Norton Atlas introduced in 1962 was enlarged to 750cc. The Atlas got a successor in the newly developed Norton Commando with the revolutionary Isolastic frame with which the vibrations were eliminated. The first Commando models got the 750cc engine and later on, in 1973 they were definitely enlarged to 850cc. In April 1975 the COMMANDO was equipped with an electric starter. The COMMANDO was officially built until 1975 Then AMC went in to liquidation. From the remaining parts over the course of the years 1976/77/78 still about 1500 COMMANDO’S were built. With a top-speed of 190 km/h the NORTON COMMANDO was one of the first real Superbikes. The NORTON COMMANDO was declared “Machine of the year”, starting in 1968 for up to 5 consecutive years, by the readers of Motor Cycle News. The NORTON COMMANDO is, in the Dutch Norton Club, one of the most popular and devoted models. This unique lottery, onlyto our customers, started October 1st and will be held up to and including March 31st 2001. In other words for every Hfl. 500,-- spent in our shop during the months OCTOBER, NOVEMBER, DECEMBER, JANUARY, FEBRUARY AND MARCH you will get a lottery ticket. The purchase can exist of parts, clothing, and helmets and so on but also a complete motorcycle. So if you, for instance, would buy a classic motorcycle for an amount of Hfl. 9.000,-- you will get 18 lottery tickets! When you, during the period of October 1st 2000 up to and including March 31 2001, buy goods in our shop, you can save up the sales receipts. When you have reached the amount of Hfl. 500,-- you can exchange them in our shop for a lottery ticket. For the customers who have bought a classic motorcycle in the year 2000 we have a special surprise, they will also get the chance to win the NORTON COMMANDO. They will receive a ticket for free, for every Hfl.2, 000.-- spent. They have been informed in the meantime by us, by personal letter with the confirmation of this gesture. The notarised drawing and hand over of the NORTON COMMANDO by a Dutch motorcycle celebrity to the lucky winner will take place in the course of the month April 2001 on a Saturday; the exact date has yet to be determined. Sales of motorcycles on consignment are (of course) excluded from the lottery. The complete rules and regulations for the great THE MOTORCYCLE COMPANY LOTTERY are available in our shop.
